Expanded Canon EOS R10 Digital Camera Body Key Features:
The Perfect Sports and Wildlife Companion
One of the biggest perks of the APS-C sized sensor in this camera is the increased reach it gives your lens. The EOS R10 delivers 1.6x more telephoto reach than full-frame cameras of the same focal length - making this camera the perfect sports and wildlife photography companion. Not only is this an excellent solution for getting closer to the action, but it also affords greater detail in landscapes and more powerful portraiture.
Reinforcing the EOS R10 as the ideal sports and wildlife camera is the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II. Programmed using deep-learning AI, this AF system recognises people, animals and vehicles wherever they are in the frame. And, with the ability to shoot continuously at up to up to 23/30fps with the silent electronic shutter, you can capture even the most fleeting moments whilst following your subjects with the AE lock and tracking AF.
Perfect Panoramas
The EOS R10 makes a rather tricky process quick and easy for any user. To capture stunning scenes covering a vast angle, Canon has introduced a dedicated Panoramic Shot mode. As the camera pans, the EOS R10 merges multiple images together to create the final panorama. You can even choose the direction of movement, whether it’s up, down, left or right for some incredibly creative results. And, although any RF, RF-S, EF or EF-S lens can be used, those with built-in optical IS streamline the process further, reducing any blurring that comes from movement.
In-camera Depth Compositing
Mastering depth of field is a lot easier with the Canon EOS R10. When you’re working with close-up subjects, this camera extends your control over the zone of sharpness by shooting multiple images at different focus distances before merging them together using in-camera depth compositing. This process provides instant results, so you can judge your images and get straight back to shooting.
4K UHD Video Recording
By also investing in the EOS R10’s video capabilities, Canon has packed in some impressive features to make this camera an incredibly flexible shooter. 4K/30p footage from the EOS R10 looks simply superb and is captured by oversampling 6K sensor data to produce results that need to be seen to be believed. The EOS R10 also provides options for capturing 4K 60p footage as well as full HD up to 120p.
Our Review
Why we love the Canon EOS R10:
- It's a versatile camera and with the specifications it has, it works well as an all-rounder - excelling as easily with portraiture as it does with landscape photography.
- It's well suited to beginners and enthusiasts - its price point is fair and the range of features will give any newbie a decent insight into the world of both stills and video recording.
Use this camera for:
- Thanks to its AF system and its high frame rates, the R10 is a very capable sports and wildlife camera - acquiring and holding focus on your subjects for pin-sharp images. And, thanks to its size, it would also work well for travel photography.
- If video is your thing, then the R10 has you covered. It can record 4K 60p, but it does apply a 1.6x crop. It can record Full HD video up to 60p in normal mode (with audio) or 120p with the High-Speed mode and can record 10-bit with the HDR PQ setting (H.265).
Looks and feel:
- It’s compact and relatively lightweight with an intuitive button layout.
- We wish that it had weather-proofing but this isn’t the end of the world - especially for a camera at this price point.
- Its fully-articulated screen is a big plus as it means you can as easily capture shots without having click-and-hope or laying on the floor.
Is it better?
- As one of only two Canon RF cameras with APS-C sensors, the comparison isn’t completely fair - the cameras are designed for different users. The R10 is physically smaller in profile and weight than the R7. It’s also safe to say that R10 is an entry-level model aimed at travel photographers and vloggers. The R7 has higher specs and is aimed at the likes of wildlife or sports photographers due to its faster mechanical shutter speed and IBIS.
- Like many cameras in one series, most are designed for different types and levels of users. The R10 with its lower specs and price point will be more attractive to beginners and enthusiasts.
