8K RAW Internal

The R5 C is kitted out with new shooting features that elevate this camera to the status of a Professional Video Camera. The R5 C can capture next-level 8K DCI RAW video at 30P (up to 60P with external power supply) internally to a CFexpress card. While in this mode, you can make full use of the R5 C’s Focus Tracking capabilities and it uses the entire width of the full-frame sensor for that cinematic look. Being able to shoot 8K RAW not only offers the highest level of image quality but also complete flexibility in post using Canon Cinema RAW Development software or other non-linear editing applications.

When 8K RAW is not needed, the R5 C can shoot in 4K DCI full-frame and 4K UHD at frame rates up to 120fps in 4:2:2/10-bit, with both audio and autofocus. This results in super-smooth and incredibly high-quality slow-motion video capture that is suitable for any professional project.

Adding to this image quality, the R5 C oversamples its 45-megapixel sensor which in turn, increases sharpness and colour fidelity, and lowers noise.

Intelligent Design

These new video features require power. Power generates heat. And this is where other cameras suffer without Canon’s intelligent design and engineering. The R5 C features a redesigned version of the original internal cooling system featured on the R5 that is engineered to enable the heat that’s built up in intensive video capture to be expelled via a built-in fan and exhaust at the rear of the camera. This allows you to record 8K footage for long periods without failure.

A Powerhouse Sensor

The EOS R5 C uses an incredible 45 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor that’s coupled with Canon’s powerful DIGIC X image processing engine. This potent combination of photographic engineering and design enables a level of image quality and performance that was unheard of until recent times. It’s this sensor that enables image capture with incredible detail, a wide ISO range, low noise and wide dynamic range, as well as offering burst speeds up to 20fps. And, it features Automatic Exposure Bracketing and an Interval Timer for timelapse.

What lenses can I use on the R5 C?

It is compatible with RF lenses that offer both effective AF and stabilisation. It is also compatible with EF Photo and Cinema Lenses via the EF-EOS R Mount Adapters. There’s Anamorphic lens support for 2x, 1.8x and 1.3x de-squeeze options. And, the camera’s Digital Image Stablisation system works alongside or independently to the optical IS found in lenses.

What formats will the R5 C record in?

The R5 C offers internal recording formats including three Cinema RAW Light options (LT / ST / HQ), XF-AVC, MP4 and RAW output via HDMI. It can also capture a wide dynamic range with Canon Log 3, PQ and HLG recording while utilising professional tools such as Waveform Monitor and False Colour.

Will LP-E6 Batteries work?

Yes, they will work. However, the fastest shooting rates and in-camera charging that the R5 offers are not available when using an older LP-E6 battery.
