What’s new?

The GoPro MISSION 1 PRO ILS introduces an interchangeable-lens platform to the MISSION 1 Series, pairing a 1-inch sensor with manual Micro Four Thirds lens compatibility and GP3 processing. The sensor provides 50MP capture and a 12MP Quad Bayer mode for lower-light 4K recording, and the GP3 processor delivers twice the processing power of GP2 and drives dual Neural Processing Units for denoising. GP3 supports 8K60 for high-resolution capture, while 8K Open Gate uses the full sensor area to retain more room for reframing. Higher frame rates extend to 4K240 and 1080p960 Burst Slo-Mo for slower playback, while HyperSmooth corrects camera movement across compatible focal lengths. 10-bit HLG and GP-Log2 provide dedicated options for HDR delivery and colour grading.

Manual-lens operation is supported by 8x Focus Assist and Focus Peaking, with a 2.59-inch rear OLED touchscreen and 1.4-inch front display providing camera-side monitoring. The 197g body combines GoPro mounting fingers with 1/4-20 threads for GoPro mounts and standard camera hardware. Together, these changes extend the MISSION lineup into compact interchangeable-lens production.

1-inch sensor and GP3 processing

The 1-inch sensor provides the imaging area for 50MP photo capture and high-resolution 8K recording. Its 12MP Quad Bayer mode combines sensor data for 4K recording, increasing the light represented by each output pixel to reduce noise in low light. The GP3 system-on-chip provides twice the processing power of the previous GP2, while dual Neural Processing Units run denoising algorithms on captured image data. Neural libraries also adjust processing based on motion, lighting, and people in the frame. Together, the sensor and processor provide separate routes for high-resolution capture and lower-light 4K recording.

The sensor also supports 8K Open Gate using its full 4:3 readout, with the encoded image marginally reduced to accommodate image processing. Recording the available sensor height and width retains more image area for reframing in post-production. When using a compatible anamorphic lens, the same Open Gate architecture retains maximum available sensor resolution before desqueezing. This provides a larger recorded area for compositions intended for different delivery formats.

Micro Four Thirds lens compatibility and manual focus

The interchangeable mount accepts compatible Micro Four Thirds lenses for 1-inch or larger sensors. With no electronic lens contacts, lenses must offer manual focus and either manual aperture control or a fixed aperture no greater than f4.5. This provides access to different focal lengths, depth-of-field characteristics and manual focus transitions without electronic communication between the lens and camera. Adapters can also support compatible vintage, PL-mount cinema and other specialist lenses.

Dedicated manual-focus monitoring tools provide clear visual references when setting focus. Focus Assist magnifies the image by up to 8x on the rear touchscreen, while Focus Peaking highlights in-focus areas for confirmation. The MISSION Monitor app extends these functions to a compatible iPhone or iPad, providing a larger display for checking focus and composition.

High-resolution and slow-motion video

The GP3 processor provides the throughput to record up to 8K60/50, 4K240/200, and 1080p480/400, with 60Hz or 50Hz frame rates determined by region. At 4K240, footage supports 8x slow-motion playback, with 1080p480 recording extending this to 16x. Burst Slo-Mo records 1080p960 for 10-second clips, producing 32x slow-motion playback. These combinations let you prioritise 8K resolution or choose higher frame rates when you need slower playback.

Recording uses H.265 HEVC in an MP4 container at up to 240Mbps. Standard 10-bit capture provides increased tonal gradation, while 10-bit GP-Log2 retains highlight and shadow information for grading and includes a LUT for post-production. HLG HDR uses the Rec. 2100 colour space for compatible HDR displays and players. These recording options provide separate workflows for standard capture, colour grading and direct HDR delivery.

HyperSmooth stabilisation and capture modes

HyperSmooth processes camera movement to produce steadier framing without a separate gimbal and operates across a range of compatible focal lengths. GoPro Labs can adjust stabilisation based on the fitted lens's focal length, accounting for how movement appears as focal length varies. This allows the stabilisation system to accommodate different compatible interchangeable-lens configurations.

HindSight maintains a rolling capture before the shutter button is pressed, preserving footage from immediately before recording starts. QuikCapture powers on the camera and begins recording with a single shutter-button press, while Scheduled Capture and Duration Capture control when recording begins and how long it continues. Looping continuously replaces older footage until it retains the required section. Custom Modes save frequently used settings combinations, reducing repeated configuration between captures.

Photo and night capture

The 1-inch sensor records 50MP or 12MP photographs in a 4:3 aspect ratio, with Single, Interval and Burst capture modes available. Standard images use JPG format, and RAW capture produces GPR files, with SuperPhoto also available at supported settings. You can extract individual frames of up to 44.2MP from 8K 4:3 video, providing a high-resolution still from recorded footage.

Dedicated Night Effects process longer-duration light movement directly in-camera. Star Trails records the apparent movement of stars, Light Painting captures moving light sources, and Vehicle Lights records trails produced by moving vehicles. Protune lets you control parameters including colour, exposure compensation, white balance, and ISO in supported photo and lapse modes. These controls let you adjust capture settings directly to achieve the desired night effect.

Audio recording

A four-microphone array provides stereo recording with wind-noise reduction, with Audio Tuning that offers Balanced and Voice processing options. For greater recording latitude, 32-bit float capture creates a separate WAV file with extended dynamic range, while 24-bit PCM provides an alternative uncompressed audio option. Automatic Gain Control, manual gain, and limiting control recording levels, and multi-track recording supports up to three separate tracks for later editing.

Bluetooth 5.3 supports compatible wireless audio devices, and USB-C connectivity accepts a compatible external USB-C microphone directly. With an optional adapter, the same port can connect a 3.5mm microphone or headphones. The optional Media Mod adds further microphone, line-level, timecode and headphone connections. These interfaces let the audio setup expand from the internal microphone array to external, multi-source recording.

Design, power and mounting

The lightweight 197g body provides a compact base for interchangeable-lens configurations. Integrated mounting fingers connect directly to compatible GoPro mounts, while 1/4-20 threads support standard camera accessories. Optional Magnetic Latch Mount compatibility provides another method for moving the camera between prepared mounting positions. These mounting interfaces support GoPro accessories, conventional camera hardware, and compatible magnetic mounts without changing the core configuration.

The 2150mAh Enduro 2 battery provides over three hours of continuous 4K30 recording and over five hours at 1080p30 under GoPro's test conditions. Enduro batteries for HERO13 Black can also be used as spares, although they do not provide the extended runtime or fast-charging capabilities of Enduro 2. Endurance mode is designed to maximise runtime during extended recording while reducing thermal stress at higher temperatures.

Monitoring, connectivity and transfer

A 2.59-inch rear OLED touchscreen provides the primary camera interface, and an additional 1.4-inch front display shows preview or status information. Customisable onscreen shortcuts provide direct access to selected settings. For external monitoring, an optional USB-C to HDMI adapter can send a live feed or footage playback to a compatible display, and the optional Media Mod provides micro HDMI output with 4K preview and playback.

Wi-Fi 6 supports wireless transfers and automatic cloud upload with a GoPro subscription where the service is available. You can also transfer footage wirelessly to the GoPro Quik app, send it to a phone via USB, or move it to a computer from the microSD card. Built-in GPS records location and telemetry data for overlays including speed, path, altitude, and g-forces in the Quik app. Live streaming supports 1080p or 720p output to supported services and RTMP, and timecode synchronisation aligns footage from compatible GoPro cameras during multi-camera editing.

FAQs:

How compact is the GoPro MISSION 1 PRO ILS?

The MISSION 1 PRO ILS measures 89.6 x 58.7 x 46.1mm (W x H x D) and weighs 197g. Its compact dimensions keep the camera body small when fitted with a compatible interchangeable lens. Integrated mounting fingers and 1/4-20 threads provide direct attachment options without requiring a separate mounting interface. This makes the body suitable for compact rigs and mounting configurations where size and weight need to be controlled.

Which Micro Four Thirds lenses are compatible with the GoPro MISSION 1 PRO ILS?

The MISSION 1 PRO ILS accepts Micro Four Thirds lenses designed to cover a 1-inch or larger sensor. Because the mount does not include electronic contacts, compatible lenses need manual focus and either a fixed aperture no greater than f4.5 or manual aperture adjustment. Lenses that require electronic communication to control focus, aperture or other functions are not compatible. You can also use adapters with suitable vintage lenses, PL-mount cinema lenses, and other specialist manual optics.

How long does the Enduro 2 battery last?

The supplied 2150mAh Enduro 2 battery provides up to over three hours of continuous 4K30 recording and over five hours at 1080p30 under GoPro’s test conditions. Enduro 2 also supports rapid charging. HERO13 Black Enduro batteries can be used as spares, but they do not provide the same extended runtime or fast-charging capability.

What recording media does the MISSION 1 PRO ILS use?

The MISSION 1 PRO ILS records to microSD cards. This provides removable storage for captured video and photos, with the card available for direct transfer to a computer after recording.

What time-lapse modes are available on the MISSION 1 PRO ILS?

The MISSION 1 PRO ILS provides Motion and Stationary Time Lapse modes, with video recording available at 8K30, 4K30 and 1080p30. Time Lapse Photo records images at up to 44MP with Standard or RAW output, providing individual files rather than a finished video sequence. Night Lapse functionality is incorporated into Time Lapse rather than operating as a separate capture mode. Star Trails, Light Painting and Vehicle Lights provide dedicated night-effect options at 8K30 or 4K30.
