Depending on the purpose of your monitor needs, many aspects need to be considered. There are several types of monitors that offer different levels of resolution, image quality, refresh rates, response times and more.
Most monitors offer a wide-angle display with aspect ratios of 16:9 and 16:10. This is a standard that benefits watching movies and playing video games. However, you can opt for an ultrawide monitor for a more cinematic experience, or, a 3:2 aspect ratio for optimum office work efficiency. But, what if you’re a creative practitioner and colour accuracy is vital to your workflow? Well, colour rendition differs from brand to brand, from monitor to monitor.
At Wex, we pride ourselves over the breadth of products we off and even more so, our expertise to help you make an informed decision. But, first things first - consider your budget, purpose and workflow. Once you’ve established these preliminary choices, we have our monitor buying guide that will help explain all the terms, specs and best monitor choices.

Frequently Asked Questions
What resolution do I need?
We’d recommend that you aimed for at least 1920 x 1080 (or 1080p, Full HD (FHD) and HD). This will provide sharp and clear images. But for creative editing or high-spec gaming, you’ll want to look at QHD or 4K monitors.
What is the best monitor size?
This question very much depends on your use. If you’re a gamer, you may opt for a large or even curved screen so you can see as much as possible when in your game. If you’re looking for a home or business monitor for general use, a large monitor may not be suitable or necessary. Editing monitors vary in size and this is a case of what the user prefers.
If you want versatility and flexibility, get a zoom. If you want image quality above all else, get a prime.
What’s the benefit of a curved screen?
Curved screens are not just a gimmick. The benefit of curved monitors is that they offer a more immersive gaming experience than flat screens. In addition, they’re generally more comfortable for longer periods of use and feel more natural to view.
LED or LCD?
Generally, LCD monitors tend to be cheaper and in some aspects lower specification. LED displays offer a brighter, sharper and more superior picture over LCD, as well as require less power to run. These monitors are ideal for creatives and gamers who need the best possible image.
Do I need a monitor with low blue light?
While reducing blue light may help benefit our sleep and help our eyes feel less fatigued, this shouldn’t be a defining feature of a monitor. The strain on your eyes can be lessened by lower blue light levels but you can achieve the same effect with proper calibration. In addition, this isn’t a desirable feature for gamers or creatives as reducing the blue light will affect all colours on the display and therefore render a less-than-perfect image.
