If you’re shopping for a Nikon camera, there are several different types to choose from. Let’s break them down.
Nikon mirrorless cameras
Nikon’s mirrorless range is the incredible Nikon Z series. These cameras are mostly full-frame professional models, with an emphasis on speedy and silent shooting. Communication between the camera and lens is ultra fast, and the flagship models also have excellent autofocus.
Nikon has also started to introduce APS-C and affordable full-frame cameras to the Z series, making it more accessible to amateur and hobbyist photographers.
Nikon Z7 II:
The current flagship king of the Nikon Z series, the Nikon Z7 II is a professional-grade camera. It’s equipped with dual processors for ultra-fast performance, and can capture up to 200 images at 10fps in a single burst.
Nikon Z6 III:
The world’s first camera to employ a partially stacked CMOS sensor. The Z6 III’s circuit parts are stacked as bars on the top and bottom of the pixel area, resulting in higher continuous shooting rates, quicker autofocus, higher video frame rates, and less rolling shutter effect than the previous model.
Nikon Z8:
A powerful and lightweight hybrid full frame mirrorless camera equірреd wіth а 45.7МР ѕtасkеd СМОЅ ѕеnѕоr, аn ЕХРЕЕD 7 рrосеѕѕоr, а fullу еlесtrоnіс ѕhuttеr wіth hіgh-ѕрееd rеаdоut, аnd 8К/30р vіdео rесоrdіng. Thе Z8 trulу еmbоdіеѕ whаt іt mеаnѕ tо bе а hуbrіd ѕhооtеr.

Frequently asked questions
- Can you use Canon lenses with Nikon cameras?
-
Not natively, as the two systems have different lens mounts. There are mount adapters that allow you to use lenses from one system on a camera from another. Just bear in mind, however, that this can mean certain functions like autofocus don’t function the same way (or don’t function at all).
- Which Nikon cameras are full-frame?
-
Nikon’s professional and enthusiast DSLR and mirrorless cameras are all full-frame. They are referred to as “FX-format”, as opposed to “DX-format”, which denotes the firm’s APS-C cameras.
- Which Nikon cameras shoot 4K video?
-
The vast majority of contemporary Nikon cameras shoot 4K video. The only modern exceptions are those oriented towards novice users, such as the D3500 and D5600. All Z-mount mirrorless cameras shoot 4K video. If you’re buying an older used camera, it probably only shoots Full HD, but you should always check.
- Do Nikon cameras have internal memory?
-
All Nikon cameras require a memory card – different models can accept different types, so check your camera before hitting “buy” on anything!
- Do Nikon cameras have Wi-Fi?
-
The vast majority of Nikon cameras have Wi-Fi. The only exceptions are ultra-cheap cameras like the CoolPix W150, and older cameras that pre-date Wi-Fi being common. If you’re buying used, then double-check.
