As a high-functioning large aperture lens for both stills and video, the Sony FE 14mm f1.8 is a welcome addition to the ever-reliable G Master lens range. It features an upgraded optical design that incorporates two extreme aspherical elements, as well as one Super ED element. In short, this guarantees full edge-to-edge high-resolution image capture in any and all shooting environments. The 9-blade aperture further affords an aesthetic bokeh quality, whilst two XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors ensure rapid, accurate, and near-silent autofocus and tracking. The active reduction of sagittal flare is an impressive new feature for stargazers and astrophotographers, whilst the aforementioned autofocus performance lends itself to high-end video capture. This full-frame 14mm f1.8 lens has the ability to switch between shooting landscapes, starscapes, dynamic portraiture, and video capture with ease. Whilst the lightweight, compact, and well-balanced design lends itself to all day, everyday shooting.
The Sony FE 14mm f1.8 G Master lens consists of multiple lens elements to ensure crisp, sharp, and colour-accurate imagery. This includes two XA (extreme aspherical) elements, two ED (Extra-Low dispersion) elements, one Super ED, and one aspherical element. This may sound complex, however, the inclusion of these intricate optical elements ensures outstanding resolution every time you release the shutter button. You are guaranteed corner-to-corner high-resolution and a stunning bokeh quality via the circular 9-blade aperture. This makes the 14mm f1.8 ideal for landscapes, starscapes, portraits, and even videography. The wide angle of view is also great for experimenting with close-up perspectives and dynamic framing.
This G Master lens incorporates two XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors for fast-action autofocusing. When compared to more conventional lenses, the 14mm f1.8 provides superior accuracy, speed, and a much quieter focusing system. By doing so, you will never miss a shot with this large aperture wide-angle lens. When shooting video, rapid AF can be a real lifesaver; capturing precise detailings and adding serious production value to your content.
To fight the frustrations of shooting in strong sunlight and intense backlighting, Sony have added a Nano AR Coating II to the lens element surface. This has the desired effect of minimising internal reflections to ensure that flare and ghosting are no more. As this FE lens is such a powerful multi-functional prime lens, the addition of Nano AR is a real game-changer in light-sensitive shooting scenarios. These include shooting landscapes at dawn/dusk, portraiture under natural light, studio shooting, and various forms of astrophotography.
As with all Sony G Master lenses, you are presented with a stylish, tactile, and well-balanced lens barrel construction. The Sony FE 14mm f1.8 is also dust and moisture resistant, which lends itself to tricky shooting scenarios both indoors and outdoors. When securing this lens to a compatible camera system, you will notice the easily accessible controls and textured focusing ring. By combining this with its 460g weight, it is clear to see how the 14mm f1.8 has been tailor-made for all day, everyday shooting.
The minimum focusing distance of the 14mm f1.8 is 0.25m.
As stated, this Sony lens does come with a front and rear lens cap to protect the internal optics from damage.
Due to its powerful internal focusing system and lightweight construction, this G Master lens is ideal for use with a gimbal. This makes it a great all-round prime lens for content creators who dabble in both still and moving-image creation.
This lens is great for shooting landscapes, starscapes, portrait, and doubles as an impressive video lens.
This lens comes with a lens template, which allows you to cut-out film filters that can be fitted to the back of the lens. This is great for people who may have filter sheets lying around and those who enjoy a lightweight hassle-free lens system for use with a gimbal.
