FAQs:
What forms of image-making is this lens best suited to?
This Sony FE 50mm f2.5 G lens is defined as a wide-angle, full-frame prime lens; ideal for cityscape and landscape photography, dynamic portraiture, and videography.
What is the desired effect of bokeh?
Bokeh is defined as the soft out-of-focus background that is achieved when using a fast lens at its widest aperture. It is especially prevalent when shooting portraiture, creating a pleasing aesthetic that accentuates the subject's in-focus features.
What does ‘ED' stand for in regard to glass lens elements?
'ED' stands for Extra-low Dispersion, referring to the glass element within the optical framework that actively reduces colour fringing and maximises high-resolution.
How would you defined the G lens range by Sony?
The G range is a high-end lineup of Sony lenses (with the G standing for "Gold") that can be characterised by their pro-level features and quality image capturing abilities. They have also been developed to focus faster and with more precision - ideal for video recording.
What is the difference between the Sony G lens range and the Sony G-Master range?
The Sony G lenses (or Gold line) were Sony's first premium range of lenses specific to Sony Alpha cameras - white ‘G' on a black square. They prioritise high-quality materials, increased sharpness, smooth bokeh, and a fast, constant aperture. The more recent GM (Gold Master) lenses can then be physically differentiated by the white ‘G' on an orange square. By expanding their G lens line, Sony are putting more emphasis on accessibility and variation - supplying pro-level lenses to freelance photographers/videographers, mid-level image-makers, and hobbyists alike.
